About Me

Meal delivery chef owner in partnership with CookUnity. Chef Maribel is a James Beard Foundation Best Chef nominee, 2019. Executive chef and creator of the former Yuyo Peruano restaurant in Austin, Texas. She is a video media talent, cookbook contributor, recipe developer, and cooking instructor. 

Welcome to Cocina (koˈsina) Maribel. My kitchen is Latin based with recipes and dishes learned from chefs, mothers, abuelos and friends.

I have spent extensive time in Peru, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and her native country of Bolivia. Her training in Latin American cuisine included working alongside world-class chefs in Lima, including Pedro Miguel Schiaffino and Virgilio Martinez, as well as alongside large families in their home kitchens. My understanding of the complexities of Peruvian food reflects the various ethnicities of Peru: African, indigenous Peruvians, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and other European peoples.

Chef Maribel specializes in Latin cuisine from Peru, Mexico, Argentina and Bolivia. She is a classically trained chef utilizing the many flavors of Latin America to inspire innovative dishes. Chef Maribel shares her critically acclaimed Peruvian ceviche recipe and technique for your next group gathering. Your class includes cultural context of how to eat like a local Peruvian while sharing stories of her work and life in Lima.  Latin asados, empanada making, and specialty sweets are a few other cooking class offerings.
